Getting help inside the Rentalbuddy admin

4 min read

There is more help built into the admin than most operators find. This page lists what is there, where it is, and — for the two things people hunt for most, the booking button and the QR code — where they actually live.

Video guides, from the page you are on

The fastest help in the product is the Video Guide button in the top bar. It shows up on the pages that have a walkthrough recorded for them, next to the name of the section you are currently in, and opens the video in a window over your work.

At the time of writing, a video guide exists for:

  • Bookings
  • Booking Management
  • Customers
  • Products
  • Locations
  • Stations
  • Settings

On other pages the button simply does not appear — that means there is no video for that page, not that something is broken.

The FAQ page

FAQ in the left menu opens a list of the main sections of the admin — Overview, Bookings, Booking Management, Customers, Stations, Products, Locations, Promo codes, and a couple more if you have admin rights. Each row that has a video guide shows a video icon on the right; clicking it plays the same video you would get from the Video Guide button on that page.

In other words, treat the FAQ page as the index of video guides — one place to see everything that has been recorded, rather than discovering it page by page. Click the video icon, not the row title — the row title opens a panel that is currently empty for these entries.

The setup Guide on Home

While your account is still being set up, Home shows a Guide: a live checklist that knows what you have already done and what is missing. It is not a static help page — the rows are clickable, several open a short dialog that walks you through the step, and it shows hints such as "You need to create a location before you can create a product" when a step is blocked.

It disappears once every step is complete and Home becomes your dashboard. Everything it covers, plus the steps it does not track, is written out in New operator setup checklist — from empty account to first booking.

The support section

Some accounts have a Support item in the left menu, which opens a support area inside the admin. It is not enabled for every account, and it is not available on free accounts or to read-only users, so if it is not in your menu that is expected — use your normal support contact instead.

The two things people cannot find

The booking button code

It is not under FAQ, and it is not in Settings. It is on the location:

Locations → open your location → the Book button tab.

That tab is where you choose Where do customers book?, where you copy the booking engine code and the button code for your own website, and where you set the address of the page the button sits on. Full instructions, including the per-website-builder steps, are in Install the booking button on your website.

The QR code

Also on the Book button tab, further down the same screen. Rentalbuddy's own wording there is: "if the buttons are implemented on your site, you can add "?showConfirm=true" to automatically open the booking flow. Below, you can download a QR code that can be configured for customers to scan and go directly to the booking flow."

The full walkthrough — including styling and download — is in Direct booking links and QR codes — where to find them.

Print a test and scan it with a real phone before you order a hundred of them.

When the built-in help is not enough

  • A customer is standing in front of you. Go straight to the troubleshooting articles — Customers aren't getting a PIN code (or the code doesn't open the lock), The customer says no confirmation email arrived, Customers see no available times, or no products at all.
  • A money question. Check Rentalbuddy or Stripe — where do I go for what? first; roughly half of payment questions turn out to be Stripe's side rather than Rentalbuddy's.
  • You do not know which screen owns the setting. Finding your way around Rentalbuddy: the menu explained maps the whole admin, including the account-level versus location-level split that hides most "missing" settings.
  • Still stuck. Use the Support section if your account has it, otherwise your usual support contact. Have the booking reference and the location name ready — it is the first thing you will be asked for.
